Opening Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 7-10pm

Special Open Hours and Screening as part of Open Press on Saturday October 10, from 4-7pm

Open Hours: 6-8pm Fridays October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13, 20, 27, December 4 & 11.

Outside Gallery is pleased to present the work of Kristin Cammermeyer bringing together new and recent work of hers including "Accumulation at 12th & Marion" from her installation at the Hedreen Gallery in Seattle; and "big wheel, 2 chairs, and a tray" new work made from materials collected in and around the neighborhood of Outside Gallery.

Outside Gallery, a project of Insert Blanc Press General Projects is co-curated by Chris Niemi & Mathew Timmons and seeks to create a new exhibition platform, literally outside in the side/front yard of our house in Lincoln Heights. Exploring the differences between institutional or traditional galleries and the kind of aesthetic space many people have access to in their own front yard, Outside Gallery provides a new platform for contemporary art. We held our first show, NUSTACHUS by John Zane Zappas, in February of 2015 and looking towards the future, we have a solo show by Michelle Carla Handel opening in January 2016.

Celebrating the opening of Outside Gallery with our second show this year, Insert Blanc General Projects is excited to present a group of artists who have worked with the press in the past few years. This stellar group of artists are particularly excited to explore the alternative exhibition space we've been developing thru Outside Gallery, a new exhibition platform, literally outside in the side/front yard of our house in Lincoln Heights.

What can we do with some of the more obvious spaces available to us? What can you do with your front or back yard or even your side yard? or your roof? These are some of the central questions we are posing with Outside Gallery. We're thinking about urban and suburban architecture and the spaces and opportunities provided. As the availability of aesthetic space is stretched by under-development of the support structures for the contemporary artist, what can be done in your own yard? Like many others these days, we're opening up our house and our living space for art and artists.

Please join us for the inaugural opening of Outside Gallery with an exhibition of new work by John Zane Zappas. Outside Gallery, a project of Insert Blanc Press General Projects is co-curated by Chris Niemi & Mathew Timmons and seeks to create a new exhibition platform, literally outside in the side/front yard of our house in Lincoln Heights. Exploring the differences between institutional sculpture gardens and the kind of aesthetic space many people have access to in their own front yard, Outside Gallery provides a new space for contemporary art.

N U S T A C H U S by John Zane Zappas features new site-sensitive sculptures and drawings on aluminum. Zappas’ objects shift one’s focus from what an element represents to how it operates. Relying on the materiality of recognizable objects while resisting their utility, objects become values, fetishes, idols… The work is not about resolution, but resides in a space where there is nothing to decode—an empty stage for fleeting moments of being. Zappas firmly believes that knowledge can be revealed through the act of making and he works to move from the familiar to the ambiguous with a dizzying lack of distinction between humor and solemnity.

John Zane Zappas (b. Torrance, 1985) received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2012. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Primetime and Good Weather. In 2012 he participated in residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. He lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
